I visited Tracycakes Bakery Café in Murrayville a few weekends ago for a High Tea date with my sister. I had heard about Tracycakes for awhile, but had never had the chance to visit. The High Tea with my sister was so lovely, and I fell in love with this adorable cafe. I knew instantly that I needed to feature Tracycakes on the blog. Enjoy some pictures of delectable Tracycake cupcakes, as well as an interview with the owner, Tracy Dueck. Who are you? I’m Tracy Dueck, Owner of Tracycakes Bakery Café. I was a ‘stay at home’ mom for most of my adult life, while raising my children. When they started pursuing their own paths, I took some to reflect and focus on what I wanted to do, to identify my passions and dreams. I have always loved to cook and bake for my loved ones, so I dreamt of offering a beautiful place where people could connect with their families and friends—a place offering warm smiles and delicious home-made food. Life happens over coffee, so why not sweeten the experience with cupcakes, charm, and an inviting ambiance. In 2006, I took the leap and opened my first Tracycakes Bakery Café. I was so humbled to watch people come to my little restaurant. They came for soups, wraps, and sandwiches made with the freshest ingredients. Our signature item is cupcakes, in over 40 flavours in fact. Our customers really loved our cupcakes, always made with fresh buttercream icing, and their fun names like Ra-Ra-Raspberry and Lovely Bunch of Coconuts. We also added High Tea to our menu, which was popular among mothers and daughters, girlfriend catch-up sessions, and special occasions, such as bridal showers, baby showers, and birthdays! Customers started making cupcake orders for their weddings, and then we added a line of specialty cakes. We call our brides #Tracycakebrides. Always going back to our vision of sharing food as love, we are honoured every time a Tracycakesbride chooses us to celebrate their happiest of days. We have two locations, located in Abbotsford and Murrayville, and a dedicated Tracycakes team. Why did you start doing weddings? Our customers starting approaching us with specialty wedding cake and cupcake tower orders and then we started proactively marketing it as we love working with brides. Helping them plan their special day has us smiling in the kitchen while we bake and ice. What is your favourite part of working in the wedding industry? Meeting the brides and their families and friends. Often, they will have a High Tea stagette with us too. We love hearing their vision, bringing it to life, and then receiving the feedback. They always have us blushing with their kind comments. Any advice for brides and grooms who are currently planning their wedding? Just to enjoy the planning process as much as the big day and to provide enough lead time so that everyone involved can create their masterpieces. Oh, and they might want to keep our cakes under shadow, if it’s a hot summer day, so that the buttercream icing looks as beautiful upon presentation as it did when it left our bakery! A random fact (or two) about yourself. I’m a wife of 30 years, a mom to three beautiful children, and a grandma to three gorgeous grandchildren! I have known Sarah of Alba Photography for several years now. Sarah brings joy, passion, and excitement to all that she does, and her photography business is no exception. The photos that she takes are stunning, a few of which you can see below. Be sure to learn more about Sarah and ALBA Photography below, and then check out her website and blog! Who am I? My name is Sarah, the girl behind Alba Photography. Why did I start doing weddings? Since both my parents are licensed marriage officiants, I grew up around the wedding industry. For 6 years I coordinated nearly 600 wedding ceremonies as a hostess for The Chapel Group. Through this experience I learned a lot about the industry, and got the chance to watch a lot of the big name photographers work first hand. As my fascination and discipline with photography developed, the transition to wedding photography was incredibly natural. And now I'm approaching my third wedding season with Alba Photography… what a wonderful adventure! What is my favourite part of working in the wedding industry? The people. I count it a huge privilege to get to know couples and invest into a very special part of their journey. My goal is always to bless couples by capturing beautiful, authentic moments in a creative and compelling way. Any advice for brides and grooms who are currently planning their wedding? 1. First and foremost, enjoy the season and don't sweat the small stuff! 2. To save money on some of your purchases, join a wedding swap group on Facebook, where you can purchase items for your own big day that previous brides only used once (and you can sell the stuff you don't want afterwards!). 3. With respect to photography, living in Greater Vancouver I often get the question, "What if it rains?" We always hope it won't, but sometimes it does. Don't worry, just be prepared! Here are some things you can do to help with your photos on a rainy wedding day: -Have a backup location that has covered areas but is still outdoors -Bring white or clear umbrellas -Use hand-warmers (especially for non-summer weddings). The ladies can hold them in their bouquets if they don't have pockets. -High heel protectors to keep from sinking in the grass -Incorporate a blanket/sweater/coat into the look of some of your photos -Allow for a little time to touch up hair/make-up afterwards A random fact (or two) about myself. I drink too much earl grey, I collect postcards, and on occasion I like to try my hand at calligraphy. I am excited to feature another local vendor on the Jodi Marie Events blog. Today's feature is DesignerCookies, a bakery that specializes in customized sugar cookies. I have had the privilege of sampling these cookies on several occasions, and I must say that they are always fresh, tasty, and intricately decorated. Keep reading below to learn more about the owner, Aly, and her amazing company. Who are you? Aly Neufeld, the owner and operator of DesignerCookies. Why did you start doing weddings? As a part of my business, weddings are such wonderful celebrations to be a part of. What is your favourite part of working in the wedding industry? How happy everyone is. Any advice for brides and grooms who are currently planning their wedding? Stay calm and be organized. Delegate and be firm in your decisions. A random fact (or two) about yourself. I have a Golden Retriever named Revy and I LOVE eating sour candies. If you are a vendor interested in being featured on the Jodi Marie Events' blog, please email Jodi at info@jodimarieevents.com.
